The Kalvaliai Mound

The mound is also called Sleepy Hill. Its top is triangular, elongated, of north-south direction, 50 m long, 34 m wide at the northern end, 3 m lower at the eastern side. The mound is covered with deciduous trees, the western and southern slopes lay waste. At the southern and northern foothills, there is a foothill settlement on an area of 1 ha. The mound dates back to the 1st and the beginning of the 2nd millennium. The western slope is authentically preserved; an irregular site is protected by a dike. It is an easily accessible, tree-shaded mound. There are 5 fairy tales about this mound.
A monument to Vytautas Vaitkus, a defender of Lithuanian freedom
Vytautas Vaitkus was born on September 22, 1943, in Paežeris village, in Šilalė district. He worked as a driver at a Lithuanian film studio, and later got an additional job as an electrician-plumber in Vilnius
Sports Palace. He is a defender of Lithuanian freedom, one of the victims of January 13, 1991 killed during the Soviet Union’s military aggression against the restored state of Lithuania. On January 13, he was shot dead by the Television Tower in Vilnius. Together with other victims of January 13, he was buried in Antakalnis cemetery.
In September 2021, a roof post was built and consecrated in memory of Vytautas Vaitkus in his native village. The author of the roof post is a wood carver Alvydas Pocius. The author of the metallic sun is a folk artist Klemensas Lovčikas.
