Ernestas Galvanauskas (1882-1967) – former Prime Minister of Lithuania, Minister of Trade and Industry, having represented Lithuania in the League of Nations. Under his direction the Cabinet of Ministers in 1922 decided to establish the University of Lithuania. In Belgium he completed his studies and received diplomas in mining engineering and electrical industry engineering.   

In 1927-1928 years he was a Chairman of Klaipėda‘s port board; between 1934-1939 he established the Klaipėda Commerce Institute, and was its rector. He reorganized Klaipėda‘s woodworking industry, founded Klaipėda‘s Trade School. He also was a member of the board of directors for the „Rytas“ publishing house, and the first chief editor of Klaipėda daily newspaper „Vakarai“.      

In 1941 he was deported by the Nazi to the up-country of Reich. Died in France (According to daily newspaper „15 min“, 2006 09 05).

In Klaipėda University Campus 2006 there is built a monument to him. The author – sculptor Vytautas Balsys.
