The first blacksmiths symposium (titled „The Four Winds“) took place in Klaipėda 2008 and brought together many masters from Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Canada… An original composition „The Fifth Wind“ was created by all the participants of workshop. The wind of Creation – the fifth – is blowing by this sculture to the city from Klaipėda castle territory. The wooden castle is built in 1252, a new stone one of enclosure type – in 1254. The complex of the castle buildings stood on the embankment, which was surrounded by ditches. In 1328 the Knights of the Sword transferred the castle to the stronger Christian Order, which made it convent. In the middle of 18th century in terms of defence and fortification Klaipėda castle was in the lead in Prussia. The castle lost its military importance after Seven Years War. In the first half of the 20th century in the territory of the castle several industrial buildings were built. Now in the castle the Castle Museum operates, archaeological excavations in the territory have been ongoing since 1975.
