On 15 January 2018, during the 95th anniversary of returning Klaipėda region to Lithuania, the memorial plate for Petras Tarasenka was installed on the building of the Institute of Baltic Region History and Archaeology of Klaipėda University. The idea of commemorating this historical figure in Klaipėda was suggested by the Society of Lithuanian Archaeology.
Petras Tarasenka (1892-1962) was a famous Lithuanian military officer, archaeologist, museologist and writer. In 1923-1925, he served in the 7th Infantry Platoon of the Samogitian Duke Butigeidis, located in Klaipėda, which was established in the territory that is currently known as Klaipėda University. While staying in Klaipėda, he wrote Priešistorinė Lietuva (Eng. Prehistoric Lithuania), a textbook of regional and archaeological studies. He researched regional mounds and worked on the foundation of Klaipėda Museum.
