Object address: Priestočio street 1, Klaipeda, Lithuania

Municipality: Klaipėda

The railway line between Tilsit and Klaipėda, as well as the building of Klaipėda Railway Station on Priestočio Street 1 with the first paved representative square of the city were built in 1872–1875. The complex consists of two buildings: the old yellow-brick classical two-storey station building with a gable roof, built in 1881, and the new red-brick station wing, which was built in 1983.
The railway lines and the entire necessary infrastructure cost 5 800 000 Prussian thalers. The trains were launched in 1878. The first trains carried cargo – timber and fish – on the routes Klaipėda-Šilutė and Klaipėda-Šilutė-Pagėgiai.
The railway line to Klaipėda is very important for stevedoring and marine business companies, which use Klaipėda Railway Station (nod) to import and export lots of cargo to other states and cities in Lithuania.
Currently (2018), the main premises of Klaipėda Railway Station are located in the wing, while the old building has been privatised and hosts a catering institution and various commercial premises.
In 2002, for the anniversary of the city, the square in front of the station was decorated with a bronze statue Farewell, which was initiated by the Klaipėda region emigrants.
