Object address: Dane Square (at Biržos bridge), Klaipeda, Lithuania

The data, where was the first postal station in Klaipėda, does not exist. In 18th century Klaipėda Post was in Baderstrasse 1/2 (current – Daržų and Aukštosios street corner), where in 1775 the chief of post and bank Witte built a two-storey house in which he lived and himself. In 1796 after the death of post chief Witte, Post Office was moved to Turgaus street, where operated until 1816.

Since 1816 Post operated in Biržos street 1/4 at Biržos bridge along the Danė River. Post‘s building was reconstructed by classical style.

In this building five cabinets and two rooms, stabling for five horses of couriers and utility premises belonged to the Post. The main facade of the building was facing the Danė River. A huge arched window dominated in the center of the facade through which the light came into the lobby and internal stairs. Below the window – the representative doors with portal. A two-storey tower rose up above the roof. This house was the architectural accent of the Dane coastal. After the Second World War building of Old Post did not survive.
