Having turned from Turgaus street to Pasiuntinių side-street, in the square, which is set up in the place of residential quarter destroyed during Second World War, you are met by Algirdas Bosas‘s „Tower“ that „symbolizes former and current life of Klaipėda city – a house, in which somebody resides and monument that fills the space between the houses“ (Šmitas P. Klaipėdos universitetas, 1999, No. 3). „I wanted that in this house various epochs and traditions which have touched our old town and in passing left their mark would intertwine…Every window and door, draperies and planes, proportions of heights have their meaning…I have decided to accommodate in this tower Jurgis Baltrušaitis. He is not from Klaipėda…His poetry, his relation with the universe, the metaphors were close to my work…And I did such component detail – his portrait with cosmic vision; and all this, miniaturized hundred times, he holds in his hands. I used the old Renaissance principle…The tower seems like diary of work and flow of time. Ten years were spent creating this piece…That tower will change as a child, as a human. It will have to mature, and then as well to get old…Therefore I left a non-patina bronze. Therefore time continues working“ (From the sculptor‘s A. Bosas conversation with a journalist Z. Tallat-Kelpšaitė, 1991).
