The museum exposition was established at the initiative of poet Eugenijus Matuzevičius in 1987. The exposition tells the tragic story of the life and works of the Lithuanian poet Vytautas Mačernis. The materials for the exposition were collected by teacher Juozas Neniškis, ethnographer Konstantinas Bružas, and librarian Violeta Garbenčienė. The family and next of kin to the poet have also gifted some family relics that survived the war. Some furniture was brought in from Šarnelė, namely a table, a bench, some chairs, and a chest of drawers. Moreover, portraits of Vytautas Mačernis were hung on the walls as well as the artwork, dedicated to the late poet, created by graphic artist G. Didelytė. Lastly, there are also some portraits of people, who personally knew Mačernis and who have preserved his legacy. Macernis’ artistic contribution to the world as well as a book with his actual autograph, photographs of his family and homeland (Šarnelė), and posters for events to commemorate V. Mačernis can be found in exposition.

The museum is supervised by Violeta Garbenčienė. If you wish to visit, please call: +370 683 73252 or +370 674 20400
