The old school of Kalotė village

The memoirs of the former residents of Kalotė village, published in the 6th-7th decade of the 20th c., mention the boscage of Kalotė (Ger. Kollater Heide), stretching westwards from Kalotė Lake to Giruliai and well-liked by summer vacationers. In the early 20th c. Kalotė grew as a resort, but wartime calamities, the establishment of the collective farm and devastating soviet-style farming had desecrated and torn this settlement apart. Its famous and beautiful past reflects only on one of the remaining old buildings – Kalotė Primary School, built back in 1911.
