In 1928, the Freedom Monument, commemorating the ten years of Lithuania’s independence, was built in Plungė Laisvės (Eng. Freedom) Alley. The monument was violently taken down after World War II, somewhere between 1950 and 1953. However, the Freedom Monument was restored in 1992 and consecrated on September 7th, during the 200-year anniversary of Plungė. The author of the monument and the coat of arms is Vilimas Ketvirtis, the sculptor of the Vilnius Art Workshop. Later, the author of the monument worked as an art teacher in the Adolfas Jucys Primary School.
