Coordinates: 55.717336 21.128249

Object address: Herkaus Manto street 38, Klaipėda, Lithuania

Municipality: Klaipėda

The Spirit and Beer Factory building complex was constructed around the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century. An inn used to be located in this building in the first half of the 19th century. It used to brew beer on site.

In 1890, the private inn became a brewery, which was called Bohemija. It was named after the fact that the brewery used bohemian malt and beer. In 1920, the company built a spirit distillery in its yard and started to make vodka and liqueur. During that same year, the administration building was reconstructed, or more specifically, two buildings were merged into one. A beverage store was open in the building alongside Herkaus Manto st.

Elements from styles such as late Art Nouveau, Expressionism and Constructivism can be seen in the façade of the building. After 1945, the buildings of the brewery were used as warehouses. The office of the brewery, the prosecutor’s office, a hotel, and, during Soviet times, beverage and sock stores used to be located in the administration building for some time.

The remaining Klaipėda local brewery complex is included in the Register of Cultural Objects. Nowadays, it is a commercial-residential building.

1.    Spirit distillery – 38 Herkaus Manto st.
2.    Brewery – 25 Šaulių st.
