The monument was placed in the Klaipėda Soldier’s Cemetery in ca. 1949. The statue was placed to honour the soldiers of the Red Army, who have died during the seizure of Klaipėda. It was the first monument, dedicated to the fallen. It depicted a soldier who, who was kneeling down on one knee, holding the USSR flag in his right hand and a helmet in the other (lowered). The statue was raised on a concrete pedestal, upon which a plaque was placed. The following was written on it in Lithuanian and Russian: eternal honour to the heroes, who have fallen in battle for freedom and independence of our homeland.
