Monument to Maxim Gorky

Present day Liepų st. and the 2nd Russian Gymnasium were named after Maxim Gorky exactly ten years after his death. A monument to M. Gorky was placed on a pedestal in the beginning of this street. He was placed on a pedestal that was higher than that of the Wilhelm I monument. In 1962, the street underwent reconstruction works and the statue of M. Gorky was relocated to the Textilist Park, which can be found on the same street.
