Artistic accent of hospital: “Miesto laiką skaičiuojantis berniukas” („Boy counting the city time“)

In 1933 year engineer‘s J. Steikūnas firm, which was operating in Kaunas, designed and in Klaipėda, S. Nėries street (formerly – Park street) built three-tier hospital of constructivist style. It was financed and supported by the Lithuanian Red Cross Society. Republic Klaipėda Hospital, which celebrated 80th anniversary, can boast of beautiful and artistic accents as well: stairs, outgoing to Vilties street, were adorned by work of sculptor Gintautas Jonkus – boy, counting the eternal city time. This boy is like from Klaipėda coat of arms – he stopped at hospital and wishes hospital as well as all the citizens of Klaipėda the longest years. On the other side of the granite slab – the words of G. W. Leibniz „The present is always full of the future“.
