All his life the traveller from Klaipėda Gintaras Paulionis (1945-1994) dreamt to sail across the Baltic Sea. While preparing for this voyage, he built a rowing boat according to the old drawing of the Newfoundland seamen‘s dories. In 28th of June, 1994 Gintaras Paulionis sailed from Klaipėda, on the 14th of July he reached shores of Sweden, later – Denmark‘s ones. Encouraged by the success, in September he sailed back. The same huge storm that on 29 September 1994 sank passenger ferry „Estonia“ did not spare the lonely voyager. On the 5th of October a broken rowboat „Alfred Jensen“ was found on the beach near Nida, and on 15th of October sea waves washed ashore and G. Paulionis body. The authors of bollard – sculptor Klaudijus Pūdymas and architect Adomas Skiezgelas.
