Memorial to Julius Liudvikas Vyneris (Wiener, 1795-1862) was one of the most impressive in all the city cemetery. Openwork monument of white marble reminds of ancient Greek temple, whereas gravestone marble slab with carved text – stilobate. On the top of it six Doric order columns with flutes stood. On the columns – entablature with a gable roof and triangular pediments, carved from large monolithic block. Monument was surrounded by ornate metal fence. During the destruction of the cemetery monument was moved to the Jewish community territory; after having restored the Independence it was returned to its place.
J. L. Vyneris was a rich eccentric bachelor Jewish merchant, engaged mainly in the flower seed trade. He left a great heritage to the city. Still being alive he funded the promenade to Tauralaukis – trail of five kilometers lenght, lined with trees. He obliged by testament to maintain that trail and after his death. Of his funds there are built school in Didžioji Vitė, Market Hall as well. After the Great Fire in 1854 the city bought several plots to build shelters.
